The aim of Savia Biotech is to transfer the results obtained from the work of researchers to marketable products in the areas of Genetics and Physiology of Vegetable Development, Development of Microbiological Technologies and Vegetable Virology.

Savia Biotech S.A. is a technology based company set up on the 27th of April 2007. It was created as a spin-off from three research groups. The three groups include one from the Scientific Researches (CSIC) and two from the University of Almeria. The aim of Savia Biotech is to transfer the results obtained from the work of researchers to marketable products.
Savia´s scientits have very high reputations. There particular areas of research are: Genetics and Physiology of Vegetable Development, Development of Microbiological Technologies and Vegetable Virology. Due to this the financial sector has been willing to provide financial backing with 2.600.000 euros. This has helped Savia Biotech became the biggest EBT developed from a Spanish university. The majority shareholders are: Cajamar, Agrupaejido and Economic Initiatives of Almeria. In addition, it has shareholders who have an in depth knowledge of the food-processing industry. These shareholders are: Casur SCA, Agroponiente, Abonos Roquetas, Zeta Seeds, Ramiro Arnedo, Femago, Almeriplant Semilleros, Primaflor and Coast of Almeria. One of the competitive advantages of Savia Biotech is that five of its scientists are also shareholders. These five researchers are: Rafael Lozano. Professor, member of the research group (AGR-176) GENETICS AND PHYSIOLOGY OF PLANT DEVELOPMENT (University of Almeria). Enrique Moriones. Doctor, member of the CSIC (Experimental Station The Mayora), member of the department of Subtropical Fruit-growing and Pathology. Joaquín Moreno. Professor, member of the research group (CVI-175) DEVELOPMENT TEC. MICROBIOLOGICAL FOR IMPROVEMENT OF SOILS OF AGRICULTURAL INTEREST (University of Almeria). Trinidad Angosto. Member of the research group (AGR-176) GENETICS AND PHYSIOLOGY OF THE VEGETABLE DEVELOPMENT (University of Almeria). Juan Capel. Member of the research group (AGR-176) GENETICS AND PHYSIOLOGY OF THE VEGETABLE DEVELOPMENT (University of Almeria). The aims of Savia Biotech are to give technological support and to work on research and development for the food industry.
