Neuron BPh has recently joined the international organisation BIO, the world’s leading biotechnology association, with more than 1,200 members, including companies, academic institutions and public and private organisations and research centres.
Neuron BPh becomes the second Spanish company to joint BIO and the first to participate in the Industrial Biotechnology and Environmental Section of the organisation.
This section comprises the main international industrial biotech companies, its principal areas of interest being biofuels, functional ingredients and biopolymers. These all are areas in which Neuron BPh has developed innovative biosolutions thanks to its technological platform MICROBIOTOOLS®.
Neuron BPh has always considered the work developed by BIO as being extremely positive. The company also values the great support given to create a network and synergies between its members by organising such meetings as the World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology and Bioprocessing, held last July in Montreal, which the industrial division of Neuron BioIndustrial attended.
Neuron BioIndustrial, through the technological platform MICROBITOOLS, works on the development of bioprocesses to generate high added-value products from industrial, chemical, pharmaceutical, food, and energy residues and by-products. Neuron’s technological platform is based on the use of special isolated-ecosystem micro-organisms from the company’s exclusive collection. With its joining BIO, Neuron BioIndustrial will start to promote in North America the company’s most recently developed processes, such as the production of second-generation biodiesel from raw glycerine.

About BIO
BIO was created in 1993 through the merger of the Association of Biotechnology Companies and the Industrial Biotechnology Association. The main goal was to represent and defend the interests of the entire industry on such issues as FDA reform, reimbursement policy, national healthcare policy, regulation of biotech crops, and small-business and economic development issues.
Nowadays BIO is the most important worldwide association of biotech companies and leads corporate associativity within the biotechnology sector. Since BIO was founded 16 years ago it has created different specific work groups to deal with the problems of the biggest biotech areas: industrial biotechnology and environment, food and agriculture, health, and emerging companies. Furthermore, BIO events such as the Annual BIO Convention, the Annual Investment Forum and BIO’s regional events are recognised as being unmissable meetings for biotech companies.
